Rosemary's Fruit Tea Recipe

My sweet mother-in-law, Rosemary, shared her famous fruit tea recipe with me. I hope you enjoy it.  It is simple and so good.

Ingredients:
7 family size tea bags or 14 regular size tea bags
1 can of Five Alive concentrate
2 cups of sugar

Boil the tea bags in a medium pot for about 5 minutes.  Do not squeeze tea bags because it will make your tea bitter.  Add 2 cups of sugar. Stir the sugar until it's completely dissolved.  Prepare Five Alive per instructions.  Add your tea to the Five Alive in your pitcher. Be careful with glass pitchers.  They will burst if the tea is too hot.

Sometimes I use 1-1/2 cups of sugar and use 1 bag of green tea to make the fruit tea healthier without sacrificing any flavor.

Johnny Cash Parkway

The Johnny Cash Parkway opened in Hendersonville on January 8th, 1982.  You can find the sign on Main Street heading towards Gallatin.  It's hard to believe the Man in Black has been gone since 2003.  If you would like, you can visit Johnny and June's grave at the Hendersonville Memory Gardens (I've written a post about it on this blog).

Haints Haunting Hendersonville

Ellis Middle School used to be Hendersonville High School.  It is rumored that a figure known as The Colonel lurks in the school's library.  A former custodian said he heard footsteps at night and others claim they have heard loud clanging sounds late at night.

Some believe that Colonel Barry haunts Hendersonville High School.  Custodians and staff members said they heard clanging sounds and witnessed fire doors opening and shutting.   A teacher sat on the bleachers and watched the cheerleaders practice their routines.  She heard  footsteps behind her, but no one was there.  She refused to go to the bleachers at night.

Others cite that a ghost with long black hair and black clothing haunts the grounds at Trinity City.

I used to work at Hazel Path Mansion and a psychic came in the office and claimed she could feel the presence of ghosts in the mansion. One of the workers showed me a stairwell that leads to the cellar.  It definitely gave off a creepy vibe.

Please let me know if you have any stories you would like to share.

Thank you for visiting Life in Hendersonville, TN 37075.

Taylor Swift's High School

Please click on photo for a larger view.

Taylor Swift attended Hendersonville High School for her freshman and sophomore years.  Swift's high school experience inspired hit songs and videos such as You Belong to Me and 15 from her Fearless albumSwift met her best friend, Abigail Anderson in the 9th grade.

In order to accommodate her touring schedule, Swift transferred to Aaron Academy, which offered homeschooling.  Swift earned her high school diploma in 2008.

Swift donated $75,000 to Hendersonville High School for the lighting and sound equipment in the auditorium.  The Sumner County School Board unanimously voted to name the auditorium after Swift.

Hendersonville High School is located at 123 Cherokee Road, Hendersonville, TN 37075.

Idyllic First Presbyterian Church Full of History and Charm

The First Presbyterian Church is one of my favorite places to look at in Hendersonville.  Even though it is on the busy main street, it exudes tranquility and stands out as a quiet remainder to slow down and focus on the important things in life.

In 1869, 17 people gathered together and petitioned the Nashville Presbytery to start a Church.  The Nashville Presbytery granted the petition and 12 members of the Gallatin Presbyterian Church became the first members of the Hendersonville Presbyterian Church.

The Church construction was completed in October 1869 along with the quick addition of the adjacent cemetery.  Many of the founders, Church family, and Confederate veterans are buried in the cemetery.  Major General Daniel Smith Donelson, Commander of the Department of East Tennessee is also buried in the cemetery. General Donelson originally owned the property.  His widow, Margaret Branch Donelson, sold the property to the new congregation. If you would like more information on Daniel Smith Donelson, please visit http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=10858.

You can visit the First Presbyterian Church at 172 West Main Street, Hendersonville, TN 37075.

Johnny and June Cash's Hendersonville Home in Ruins

Please click on photos for a larger view.

Bee Gee member Barry Gibb bought the late Johnny and June Cash's lakeside home in 2006.  Gibb planned to utilize the home as a vacation home.  However, a blaze started during renovations and ruined the majority of the structure.  Even though it is tragic that fire destroyed the Cash's home, it seems almost fitting that the home belonged mainly to Johnny and June.

Johnny and June entertained U.S. presidents, Billy Graham, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison (he used to live next door), Marty Stuart, Kris Kristofferson, Bono, Tom Petty, and many fans and friends.  Johnny and June lived at their sprawling retreat from 1968 to 2003.  Part of Johnny's poignant video, Hurt, was filmed on his beloved sanctuary.

I photographed the property on June 11th, 2012. I have posted additional photos below if you like to view the photos.

June's favorite color was blue.  I thought this was a touching gesture.

If you would like to see photos of Johnny and June's home before the fire, you can visit website, http://www.cmt.com/pictures/johnny-cash-house-tour/1507143/thumbnails.jhtml.

Super Science Guy Lives Up to His Title

Richard Askey recently entertained a group of young children at my daughter's 7th birthday party.  He was voted best children's entertainer in Middle Tennessee in 2011.  He will come to wherever you want to host your party.

He is very affable, humorous, and likable.  He also gets every child involved in hands-on science experiments.  He came to our birthday party site, called up the day before the party to confirm the details, and was prompt.

I really appreciated that he did not limit the number of guests, set up and cleaned up after his experiments.  He took a lot of hassle out of the party and most importantly gave my child a party that she will always remember. He performed experiments such as:
  • huge bubbles
  • dancing coins
  • fizzy surprise
  • silly putty
  • electricity
  • foaming experiments
  • electricity experiments

A 1-hour birthday is $150.  You can purchase additional features such as:
  • rocket launch for $20.
  • speed racer car for $10.
  • a volcano cake (feeds 15-20 people) for for $30.
  • cotton candy for $20.
You can also purchase a complete birthday package for $215, which is a $15 discount.
You can also watch a video of his science experiments at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmR-okcMdZw.  If you need more information, you can call him at (615) 589-1968 or e-mail him at mrrich@supersciencetn.com.
